Dear iCandy Customer,
As part of our on-going commitment to safety and quality, we are writing to you to inform you of a Safety Recall involving the iCandy Cherry strollers in Fudge (light/ mid brown, Model IW119) and Liquorice (red/ black, Model IW124). iCandy World Ltd and iCandy America Inc. are working together with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in relation to this matter.
iCandy World Ltd has been made aware, from information given by “Consumer Reports” that a test sample of iCandy Cherry strollers were not in compliance with the voluntary standard ASTM F833 – passive containment.
(light brown / mid brown)
(red / black)
The opening between the bumper bar and seat bottom of the stroller can allow an infant’s body to pass through and become entrapped at the neck, posing a strangulation hazard to young children when a child is not harnessed.
An article on their findings can be found at www.consumerreports.org. We are asking all customers to immediately remove the bumper bar from your iCandy Cherry stroller and register by clicking on the button below for a replacement bumper bar. This replacement bar will be larger than your current bar and will be approved by CPSC’s staff.
Your original Cherry bumper bar should be discarded completely and should not be retained as a spare or for any future use. The stroller can still be used with your safety harness fully fitted and adjusted correctly.
Neither iCandy America Inc nor iCandy World Ltd have received any reports of any incidents, injuries or entrapment in relation to the bumper bar on the iCandy Cherry strollers and no other iCandy products are affected.
We would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you in advance for your attention and cooperation in this matter. We would also assure you that iCandy World Ltd in partnership with iCandy America are committed to resolving this matter as quickly as possible.Register for a free replacement bumper bar here
Q & A
Q. What products are covered by the recall and safety notices?
A. Only the iCandy Cherry stroller is affected, in the USA only.
Q. Which one is the Cherry?
A. The iCandy Cherry is a small telescopic folding chassis onto which a seat unit, bassinette or infant can be placed. It is a single stroller only and was sold in Fudge (light brown) and Liquorice (red and black). There is a cherry logo on the rear of the seat unit.
Q. Is the Cherry bassinette affected, that has a bar on it?
A. No, the iCandy Cherry bassinette is not affected by the safety recall or notices. Only the hazards identified regarding the seat unit fitted with the removable bumper bar is subject to this notice at this time.
Q. What is the hazard?
A. Risk of Entrapment or strangulation. If the distance between the bumper bar and the seat unit is sufficient to allow passage of a child’s torso but not head, this could result in the child becoming trapped. Entrapment and strangulation can occur, especially to infants younger than 12 months of age, specifically when the attached 5 point safety harness is not used.
It is acknowledged that the use of the 5 point harness, correctly fitted and adjusted, will prevent an action commonly referred to as “submarining”. This can occur when the child is not correctly harnessed into the stroller and can slip or fall, manoeuvre or wriggle beneath the bumper bar.
Q. How do I know if my stroller is affected?
A. If you have an iCandy Cherry stroller in Fudge or Liquorice that was manufactured in
August 2009 and has one of the following batch numbers, then you are affected by this
U10001 170 and U10014 182 – Liquorice
U10002 169 and U10013 181 – Fudge.
Q. Where can I find my batch number?
A. The batch number will be on a white label fixed to the black basket frame beneath the basket fabric. The basket fabric can be removed by releasing the press studs.
Q. What should I do?
A. You should immediately remove the bumper bar from the stroller, but can continue to use the stroller with the 5 point safety harness securely fitted as described in the instructions. Fill in the bumper bar request form by clicking on the button below to request your new free of charge bumper bar.
Or, Alternatively contact iCandy America toll free on 877 484 4179, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to register your details and request your free of charge replacement bumper bar which will be sent directly to you. Your original bumper bar should be discarded completely and not used and should not be retained as a spare.
Q. I need my stroller, can I use it without the bar fitted?
A. Yes, the stroller is able to be used safely without this removable bar fitted as the 5 point safety harness is the primary security for the child within the stroller. The harness should always be used, correctly fitted and adjusted as per the instructions.
Q. Can I take my stroller to the store where I bought it?
A. Please do not return the stroller to the place of purchase as they will not be able to provide the replacement bumper bar.
Q. Are any other strollers affected?
A. No, the iCandy Apple, Peach and Pear are not affected by this recall and they use different bumper bars.
